Project News…

May 2023: The project team prepared a Project Report to be sent to the funder, The National Lottery Community Fund, and to be shared with SWLD and the local community. A copy of this report can be viewed as a video by clicking on the link on the left.

Given the very positive feedback about this first year of the Heat Survey project, the Community Heat Team is looking at ways to continue to deliver this service to the community in future years. Watch this space for further news.

Engagement with schools

15th March 2023: Heat Team members Tim and Kate visited Roslin Primary School to talk to P6 & P7 year groups, as part of the school’s Science Week programme. It was a great opportunity for the children to engage with the science of thermal imaging and infra-red heat. The children were able to look at the thermal drone and take part in fun interactive experiments with the handheld thermal camera, to see how infra-red heat is transferred through different surfaces. We talked about heat loss in homes and how we had been trying to help householders think about ways to reduce their C02 emissions.

22nd February 2023: Tim and Kate from the Heat Team, visited West Linton Primary School, to give a presentation to the school’s highly motivated and very impressive Eco Group. The children had the chance to see how the thermal drone and handheld thermal camera worked and heard about how we were using them as part of our Community Thermal Action Project. A lot of fun was had by all, with the experiments we did with the children. We showed them thermal currents by mixing hot water with cold water, looked at invisible hand prints, done by everyone pressing their hands on a wall, then looking at the heat prints left behind. The big hit experiment was hiding some of the children behind a large black plastic screen and showing how we could still see them using the thermal camera.
